COLUMBIA REGIONAL INCLUSIVE SERVICES AWARDED FEDERAL DEAFBLIND GRANT
The federal Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has awarded our agency the grant to operate the Oregon DeafBlind Project (ODBP). We are honored to have received the grant and look forward to providing training and technical assistance to improve the lives of children and youth who are deafblind in our state.
Darlene Daniels has been named as the Oregon DeafBlind Coordinator and TOSA (Teacher of Special Assignment). Darlene is a highly experienced teacher of the visually impaired with an extensive background in serving students who are deafblind as well as producing professional development materials to build capacity to effectively work with and educate students who are deafblind. We will leverage these additional federal resources to support students birth-to-21 in Oregon who are DeafBlind, their families, and the educational professionals who teach and support them at school.
Dr. Rosemarie Allen Delights and Inspires Columbia Regional Inclusive Services at Back-to-School Event
Dr. Rosemarie Allen presented to CRIS staff on August 25 with a focus on racial equity. Her talk was suffused with candor, heart, and Dr. Allen's characteristic wit. Dr. Allen has long advocated for all children to have access to high quality early childhood programs that are developmentally and culturally appropriate.
Her presentation at CRIS helped staff understand and learn how to disrupt implicit bias to strengthen learning and social-emotional outcomes for all children. Her talk was exceptionally well-received by our staff, welcomed as a truly wonderful way to kick off the 2023-2024 school year. Thank you Dr. Allen!
As part of our foundational work in equity, Dr. Allen will be leading a series of ongoing professional development opportunities for CRIS staff throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
