Orthopedic Impairment
-
Our highly specialized Orthopedic Impairment (OI) staff support individuals eligible under OI from birth-to-21 who present with complex motor and/or communication needs. Our services include:
- Lending of motor equipment as well as light-to-high tech assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools and devices
- Consultation regarding OI evaluation and eligibility
- Assistance with equipment selection as well as appropriate fitting and use
- Collaboration with teams to assess motor and communication skills to identify supports and technology needs
- Development of systems so that students are better able to access their environment, increase independence, and interact socially across a variety of settings
- Professional development to build capacity among EI/ECSE and school-based professionals; schedule a custom training in your district using the AT/AAC TRAINING REQUEST FORM
We also facilitate two professional learning community (PLC) meetings. Our AT PLC is attended by SLPs, OTs and others interested in AT/AAC tools, best practices, and access methods. Email Ruth McKee to be added to the AT PLC email list.
