    Mid-tech AAC tools include devices that provide voice output and usually require batteries.  They can range from talking swtiches to tools with multiple messages and multiple levels.  For devices with several levels of messages, overlays need to be physically changed (as opposed to dynamic display devices).

    Access to Mid Tech tools is primarily through direct selection with touch, but many devices can also be accessed with switches.  Templates for many Mid Tech devices can be found on Boardmaker and Boardmaker Online.
